Pink—The Exposed Color
The qualities we associate with the pastel color pink are quite diverse. They range from sensitive, tender, youthful, artificial to eccentric,sweet, vulnerable and pleasureable. The color is at home in both “high” and “low” culture. Pink may be perceived as unpleasant, perhaps even embarrassing at times, or as appealing and enjoyable. And it is quite simply associated with the idea of beauty.
One attractive aspect of works with pink is the color’s inherent ambivalence. The driving force behind efforts to come to terms with pink in art is the desire to explore its subtlety and reveal its many distinctive characteristics. With pink artist take a position. (…)
