Conceptual, process-based, and participatory work by Barbara Nemitz as a comprehensive forum:
Living Plants in Contemporary Art (1993–2003)
Official project of Weimar 1999, KULTURSTADT EUROPAS
Focus: Vegetation
Working with plants was presented as an important phenomenon in contemporary art. As opposed to working with “dead” material, which can no longer change its form once it has been worked, plants in particular can enable us to perceive dependencies and coherencies. The form of the work is not determined by the artist’s concept and execution, but simultaneously by the plants’ genetic predispositions and the conditions at the site. Chance, time, and human care play a decisive role in what we finally see.
BN 1999
Work formats: archive: Archive: International Artists Working with Living Plants, Artists’ Gardens Weimar Office (Büro KünstlerGärten Weimar), invitations, outdoor area in the Villa Haar park, Weimar, planted works, graphic editions I and II, lectures, photo documentation, teaching projects, symposium, exhibitions.
