Color is painting’s primary means of expression. Color is light! In “water landscapes,” light does not only shine on the colors, but through the colors. They are permeated with light and intensified. The paintings shine forth into the room, much like the gothic church windows. The light changes over the course of the day, and the colors change with them. In this fashion, art once again melds with nature.
The paintings’ large dimensions intensify the color experience. The portrayals show water as a splashing and undulous element, a powerful something that is both abstract and fleeting. Water has a close relationship with air. The air incorporates it. Air moves it. Wind and storms whip up high waves, and waterfalls waft in the breeze. The light scintillates in the waterdrops. I chose satin as a moving, transparent ground for my portrayals of water landscapes.
